Daddies are seen throughout the Summer months the majority of leggy flies hit Stillwaters with a crash landing towards the end of Summer, traditionally late August and early September, however we have often found Trout fancies a Daddy even towards the end of October!

With their delicate build Daddies are susceptible to wind and a slight breeze can blow them the wrong direction, and if they end up smahing into the water then they rarely escape and become a fantastic meal for hungry Trout looking to bulk up for winter.

Our top tips:

1. Occasionally Trout like to drown a Daddy before biting, so it is worth delaying your strike by a couple of seconds just to check
2. Trout swirling around the fly but not taking it? Lift your rod tip a bit higher to dunk the Daddy as if still alive to provoke a bite
3. If using as part of a team mae sure the largest is on point position to aid turnover
4. As a team use a fly that sits 'in' the water as the top dropper, and the daddy on the point
5. Make a subtle movement with the fly like it is still trying to get off the water, or allow it to dip under the surface film a little.
6. On a shorter cast try tapping the butt of your rod so the vibrations transer to the fly
