Flies For Stillwater Margins

Chafer BeetleIn the margins of stillwaters and lochs you will find many naturals which are targeted by trout. From damsel nymphs which predate in the margins to chafers and terrestrial beetles which fall from overhanging deciduous trees and bushes in the wind to be gorged on by trout.

The margins are patrolled by trout regularly but often we see fly fishermen casting right into the middle of the lake and ignoring the margins where there are more trout. Maybe it is to show how far they can cast! If only they realised casting 20 or 30 feet and using the correct technique they could get far more trout to the bank
