Fly Tying Step By Step - Pearly Butt Dry
I first saw this pattern tied by Paul Procter but this one is tied with the Semperfli Micro Glint which not only adds some stunning shimmer to the fly but is much more robust than standard tinsel!
Material List Hook - Size 16 - 20 dry fly
Thread - Nano Silk 30D Yellow
Butt - Semperfli Micro Glint Watery Olive
Body - Semperfli Kapok Fusion UV Cream
Wing - CDC
1. Pop your hook in the vice.
2.Start your Nano Silk at the eye and make your way to the bend of the hook.
3.Catch in a length of Micro Glint
4. Wind the Micro Glint around the hook to create the butt.
5. Take 3 CDC feathers, line up so all the tips align and tie in.
6. Trim the waste away but a tip here is to cut at an angle, this helps shape your body when doing the dubbing.
7. Take the thread to the bend of the hook.
8. Make a dubbing loop with Semperfli’s new Kapok Fusion UV Dubbing in Cream. BWO and Pale Blue Dun also work well too!
9. Create the body and finish in front of the wing.
10. Whip finish!
