It closely imitates all those hard to see spinners that fall onto the water surface during the evening. Named after a famous beat on the River Wharfe where the trout can be seen in an evening steadily taking spinners as the evening light fades.
The addition of a buoyant and highly visible foam thorax allows the fly to be easily seen on the water surface.
