Greenwell's Spider North Country - Heritage Range

The Greenwell's Spider is a great traditional northen fly.  Another great fly from Mike Harding's book on Northern Spider Patterns. The Greenwell's Spider is a gerneral purpoose olive iimitation, either a dun or a nymph. This is a very important artificial fly world-wide.

The Greenwell's spider uses soft Greenwell hen hackle to make a spider version of this old favourite first designed by Canon Greenwell. The thread should be waxed with dark cobbler's wax until it becomes olive. This is one of Mike's favourite flies for late summer when the river is low and the evenings long. Mike will fish this together with a hackled version of Whyckham's Fancy

Not criticism, but when I tie spiders I like to use a slightly heavier hook to get it sub surface quicker
