North Country Bloa Fly Patterns

All these patterns are sparsely hackled wet spider flies of North Country origin, many with origins more than 200 years ago when the northen angler tried to imitate the nymphs, emerging and crippled duns and drowning spinners in the rivers like the River Wharfe and Nidd. These patterns are simple but highly effective flies. Bloa is an old name meaning bluish or slate grey in colour.
