Foam Arsed Blobs have taken the fly fishing scene by storm over the past years. However Frances Davis, one of the Welsh International Fly Fishing Team was watching the Rainbow Trout and too often saw fish turn at the last minute as the lure just did not give that final trigger for the fish. The fish came from behind almost stalking the lure and Frances decided that it needed something that had not been developed, a Blob visible from behind as well as the sides. This gem of an idea developed through prototypes until Frances, Andy and Sandy sat together at a show. Sandy's Eye Lock and Hackle Stops with Sandys Flutter Disks became the final part of the jigsaw. Stopping break offs or fluttering disks and the ragged movement created Sandys Eye Lock and Hackle Stops held the disk in place and created a superb fly. Testing over the winter and spring of 2011 proved fantastic, trout hammered these lures.
The trick was then to extend the fly further to give maximum trigger effect to the Rainbows, so Semperfli Fluoro Threads were used as the tying threads to give fluorescent triggers on the front of the blobs. We tried these and trout crucified them. After 6 or more fish we would find that the fish started to "wise up", simply changing colour brought the Rainbows on the boil again. Unlike traditional Foam Arsed Blobs the 3D FAB glinting simply aggravated the trout into taking the fly.
Use stand alone, as a suspender with buzzers underneath or use as part of a washing line rig with a DI 7 line and you have a deadly combination for the competition scene
Excellent, prompt and efficient service. So far, however, none of the five I bought have caught a fish
Hi Roger, they do work well,we've had many fish on these as with other blobs. We've used them in teams on point of intermediate lines as a washing line rig, floating suspending buzzers below works well when fish are feeding on / towards the surface.
Well tied backed by excellent service
