Blue Dun - Dry Fly

Blue Dun created by Charles Cotton.

Blue Dun

The Blue Dun has a long lineage wich can be traced back to the time of Charles Cotton. Every part of the British Isles has its' Blue Dunn pattern, some winged, some hackled, some wet some only fished dry. It is not really certain what insect the Blue Dun imitates. It is probably yet another fly that represents the large dark olive.

Blue Dun - Fly Tying Dressing

For the more adventurous among you we have provided tying specifications for the Blue Dun. Remember at The Essential Fly we sell the Blue Dun at incredible prices with a top quality fly and service to back it up. It is certainly worth tying the Blue Dun yourself to understand the pleasure of catching a fish with your own tied fly, however at the price we sell flies it is only worth tying one or two Blue Dun as your can spend more time fishing instead of tying flies - buy volume online with us.

Described in detail by Charles Cotton in the 1676 edition of the Compleat Angler [sic] for fishing the waters of Derbyshire, this fly gives emense satisfaction and sense of history when I fish it today in the same waters some 300 odd years later. It never fails to raise some interest from the wild brown trout or indeed the stock rainbow. My personal favorite. Beautiful pattern beautifully tied.

As with all the Essential Fly items that I've bought, it is neatly tied, the smaller sizes all exhibit the patience needed to do a good job.
