River Levels in England and Wales

If you're planning a trip to the river for a fishing trip, what do you do to check on the discharge level and is it rising or falling?

I use the Environment Agency River and Sea Level website:

http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/floods/riverlevels/default.aspx

You can use it to select a region, river and guaging station to pull up a hydrograph showing the levels and whats happening.
